I am a PhD student in Applied Economics. My research focuses on commodity price risk management and dairy economics. My goal for this year as the vice chair is to revitalize the Student Senate as a whole. Particularly I am passionate about establishing a strong Student Senate identity, strengthening ties with collegiate administrations, and providing more leadership opportunities to our senators. I believe the collective wisdom of all 60 senators with their active participation in our shared governance system would fully reach the Student Senate’s consultative potential for the benefit of not just individual senators but the 60,000-strong student body and the University of Minnesota system. Hello! I am a Ph.D student in Applied Plant Sciences. My research primarily focuses on resource allocation within plant breeding programs, and how to best estimate complex environmental and genetic interactions. I have a strong interest in diligent technical policy and most importantly fairness within both academic as well social issues. While this often places me at odds with either side of any debate, I believe compromise that satisfies many parties may ultimately be reached by careful language and conscientous diplomacy. My goal as a Student Senate Committee member is ultimately to serve the best long-term interest of the student body as well as the university by extension by making sure that policies are sustainable and deliberate.
