Committee Charge

Under the general direction of the Senate Committee on Educational Policy, the University-ROTC Relationships Subcommittee shall advise the Committee on Educational Policy and the University administration on the ROTC programs and make recommendations it deems appropriate to the Committee or the administration.

The subcommittee will review all Commissioned officer nominations for appointments to the faculties of the ROTC departments and make recommendations for approval of qualified candidates to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Candidates must hold an advanced degree in the appropriate discipline or professional field or be admissible to a University of Minnesota post-baccalaureate program for study in the appropriate field or discipline.

The subcommittee shall also review and approve or disapprove petitions for the establishment of new ROTC courses and for proposals to make changes in existing courses, serve as liaison to other organizations concerned with ROTC affairs (including, for example, Reserve Officers Association, U of M ROTC Alumni Society, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and so on, as well as with any University committee dealing with ROTC issues), and respond to the Committee or the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost on requests regarding ROTC affairs.

Membership

The Subcommittee shall consist of no fewer than 4 faculty members. The ex officio members shall include at least 3 student members who serve as ROTC Battalion/Wing Commanders each term, the three ROTC department heads, and at least one representative from the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. The members and chair of the subcommittee shall be appointed by the Chair of the Committee on Educational Policy, in consultation with the members of the Educational Policy Committee, or may be appointed by the Committee on Committees in consultation with the chair of the Educational Policy Committee. The chair shall be a faculty member, designated in consultation with the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
