The P&A Senate Advocates for All P&A Staff Iin MinnPost Open Letter 

Shortly after the start of the 2019 Fall semester, an opinion piece published in the Community Voices section of MinnPost recommended cutting P&A positions as a University cost-saving measure. In response, members of the P&A Senate collaboratively drafted an open letter, which was submitted to MinnPost by Noelle Noonan, chair of the P&A Senate and P&A Consultative Committee and published online. As an example of the P&A Senate’s continued advocacy for P&A employees, we invite you to read the letter in full and some highlights below.

Dear Colleagues,

It has been quite a week, hasn’t it?

Whether you’ve been on spring break or still in session, have been enjoying a much-needed vacation or found yourself working on critical and urgent need projects instead of that long-anticipated vacation day (*raises hand), I would say this week has provided many opportunities for practicing self-awareness, patience, and resilience. It has also provided its share of challenges for us all. And, I think it is fair to say that there may be a long road ahead with more to come.

Introduction to ISSS Multicultural Workshops

Join us on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. This session will highlight the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Intercultural Workshop series which combines intercultural competency and skills development workshops and "Culture In-Depth" sessions discussing the unique practices, customs, and values of some of the largest international student populations on our campus.

This session, presented by Marianne Johnson, will highlight the University of Minnesota’s Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing’s Wellbeing Model and its application in fostering resilience in individuals and teams.

Emotional Intelligence: Engaging distinct combination of emotional, personal, interpersonal skills and competencies

Catherine Rasmussen has 35 years of experience as an educator of leadership development and is a certified Emotional Intelligence trainer. She brings a passion for engaging participants in the joy of learning about themselves and others in order to create change.    

P&A Senate Outstanding Unit Award 2019

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 Outstanding Unit Award! The Award recognizes a University unit (department, center, institute, college, etc.) judged to be exemplary in its support of P&A staff and the critical role P&A employees fulfill in carrying out the University’s mission. The winning unit receives a $1,000 professional development grant. Any unit employing P&A staff is eligible to apply. Units that previously received the award must wait three years before applying again. A complete set of guidelines is available, along with information about past award winners.
