Becky Hippert
As we begin the 2017-18 academic year, those familiar with University Senate governance might notice that a familiar face is missing: After 23 years of service to University Senate governance, Becky Hippert is exploring new territory as a department administrator in the College of Biological Sciences.

Becky began her career in the University Senate Office as a student worker when she was an undergraduate. (It was her second student job at the U of M-- her first was as Goldy Gopher.) Upon graduation, she accepted a full time position in the Senate Office. During her tenure in the Senate Office, she has contributed immeasurably to the Senate Office and University Senate governance, supporting the University and Faculty Senates, acting as the resident expert in Robert’s Rules of Order, providing outstanding staff support to numerous committees, serving as the office’s technology manager and support person, among many other things. Her work in the Senate Office played a pivotal role in Becky’s life as well: “Being able to work with a diverse group of individuals, at all levels of the University, helped me develop strategies for working within and between different groups of individuals,” she said. “This process was a large part of my professional development.”

In addition to parliamentary procedure, Becky loves bunnies, the Green Bay Packers, Jane Austen, and making award-winning jam (the small business she co-owns, We Be Jammin’, sells 26 varieties of jams and jellies at the Northeast Minneapolis Farmer’s Market, as well as by special order). She is also famous in her neighborhood for her amazing Halloween display.

Becky began her new position in the Biology Teaching and Learning department in July. While we in the Senate Office miss her terribly, we are also incredibly happy for her. As for Becky, she says she will miss working with and learning from students, staff, and faculty from across the University system. Please join us in thanking Becky for her many years of service to University Senate governance.
