This winter has given all of us cocktail party conversation fodder for the rest of our lives! It has also given us an opportunity to showcase how the P&A Senate advocates for you.

On January 28, 2019, an email from President Kaler announced the cancellation of classes on the Twin Cities campus beginning at noon on January 29 and continuing through January 30. (The other system campuses had already announced complete closures.) The email stated the Twin Cities campus would remain open for all other business.

Shortly thereafter, the P&A Senate chair received numerous concerns from employees. Within an hour, the chair reached out to the P&A Senate Consultative Committee (comprised of the chair, chair-clect, and co-chairs of the four subcommittees) for discussion. All agreed that an email should be sent to the president, sharing our constituents’ concerns. Such an email was sent shortly before 10am on January 29. Civil Service Senate and AFSCME leadership sent similar messages. We were very pleased with the announcement Tuesday afternoon to close the Twin Cities campus on Wednesday, January 30. We hope everyone was able to stay safe and warm during the unusual cold.

This is an example of the many ways your senate advocates on your behalf. Your comments and concerns are ALWAYS welcome. Contact your senator or senate leadership any time.
